Our Philosophy
We believe that nature can, and should, play a bigger role in therapy than merely serving as a backdrop. Using the natural environment as a catalyst for change has countless benefits, including helping people feel more relaxed than they might in traditional counselling and therfore giving them a greater ability to access deeper feelings and connect with themselves. Outdoor therapy can create lasting change and have a hugely positive impact on people’s lives.
While we have a framework for our sessions, our counselling is always tailored to the individuals participating and their specific needs, goals and backgrounds.
Nature has the power to heal and transform, and we share that belief with participants during every therapeutic session and workshop. Our work empowers people to connect with nature and themselves in a profound way.
Jess helps people uncover their inner self—whether that’s figuring out what to do next, navigating a challenging phase in life, or tackling something difficult. With a career spent guiding, teaching, and encouraging people to push past their comfort zones, Jess specialises in using the outdoors as a therapeutic toolkit to help people change their lives and move towards their goals. Making the impossible feel just slightly less impossible (and maybe even fun).
A lover of all things outdoors, you can usually find her exploring trails on two wheels or clambering around the Scottish hills. She believes getting outside is to be in nature’s therapy office.
Jess's extensive outdoor career has led her to guide expeditions in Nicaragua, the High Tatras, and most recently, self-supported winter expeditions in remote East Greenland as a principal guide for The Polar Academy. She has spent many winters guiding ski touring and winter walking courses in the Scottish Highlands, alongside teaching rock climbing, mountaineering and mountain biking in the summer months. Jess has also created and taught modules in outdoor education at degree level for the UHI. She is an advanced wilderness therapeutic practitioner, in the final stages of her wilderness psychotherapy training, supported by a degree in Psychology and further professional training in Counselling. You're in experienced hands when it comes down to self-development in the wilderness.
As a parent and perpetual learner, Jess thrives on challenge and unpredictability—because life (much like outdoor adventures) is best when it’s a little wild.
